Stranger on the Street

You may be on a crowded street corner in Times Square.
For a brief moment you are in a holding pattern
from your scurried walk to your destination...
waiting for the light to turn.

In a sea of strangers, you are alone.

You may forget or more likely, choose not to acknowledge him,
the stranger next to you...
the one who shares with you that
momentary ambulatory pergatory.

You wait there together in suspended freedom
right next to him;
unsure of whether to awkwardly look away
or to somehow acknowledge him
with an exasperated glance, a short hello or a silent smile.

After all, you'll never see him again.
He's just a stranger.
Your mother told you not to talk to strangers.

JR NYC Street BW Fixed BLOG

Next time you stand next to a stranger on a crowded street;
remember, he is not a stranger to those he comes home to.

He may be no one special to you.
But to those he loves and who love him, in return...
He may be their whole world.

It's Black and White Wednesday.

  3. Awesome black and white! Living here in Germany where NO one speaks to you or smiles. I know when I return to America I'll be viewed as some crazy girl smiling and saying hi to strangers....especially if they look like your cute hubby!! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  5. Hellllooooo Stranger. I love to people watch and create a story for them while I wait for someone or just sit outside and see them go by.

    Some people are easy to read, sorrow, frustration, anger.

    It is so hard to just look someone in the eye and say Hello not knowing if they'll respons or play deaf.

    Lovely thoughts as always.

    Love Valerie

  6. This is an awesome post.....and so very true!! It is so ironic, because a FB friend of mine who is living in LA just wrote something very similar about Strangers in the city.

    Your writing always blows me away, but so do your beautiful pictures. I am glad that this handsome man is no longer a stranger, he is you loving and wonderful husband!

    Happy Wednesady~

  11. So true, my friend. You always make me think (and smile and laugh). Wonderful post and pciture of that handsome man of yours.

    I'm a closet people watcher. I love to hide behind my sunglasses and imagine where everyone is going and what they are really like. A fav passtime of mine - less now that I'm never alone.

    Have a great day, sweetie (the original).
    xoxo
